That became evident to me after heading to my local grocery store and picking up some beets and having the cash register lady ask me what they were. She asked me what Beets were! After asking around to my friends I found out that they didn't know what beets were because they didn't know how to properly prepare them.

Beets are extremely dirty, so be sure to remove the leaves and wash them thoroughly. If you don't cook them properly you will be eating dirt! Ew! After cleaning and trimming place your beets into a roasting pan, also make sure that you have added a little water to the pan so that they get thoroughly cooked. Roast the beets for 30 to 45 minutes with the pan covered with foil or until you can fully pierce the beets with a knife.
If you decide to boil your beets you can cook the beets for 20 to 30 minutes or until the beets are tender. If you are even more lazy or want a faster cooked beet you can use a microwave, add a tiny amount of water and cook them for 8 to fifteen minutes depending on the cooking intensity of your microwave.

Salads are a great way to introduce someone to beets. Cut up some fresh beets and be sure to take off the leaves. Again make sure they are clean. After adding the beets to boiling water let them cook for 40 minutes. Keep in mind this the larger the beet the more cooking time required.
After the beets have been thoroughly cooked through, also keep in mind that you need to place the beets into cool water afterwords to make them congruent with the dish. Now is a good time to remove the beets skin as they are too delicate right after being boiled. We typically recommend using a small knife or device rather than a peeler. Beets that have been boiled are very very soft and a peeler tends to remove to much or cause to much destruction. Keep in mind that you will probably make a mess as the beets have a lot of juice. Be sure to wear an apron or clothing that you don't care about as beets can stain clothing. After you have peeled the beets, grate them, add some garlic powder or fresh garlic and some salt, and mayonnaise for dressing, mix up the salad with a spoon or dish! An easy dish using beets.
